Swifty!
Today I'm thinking about the rumors about Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner dating and I wonder if all the denial may be under the advice of the New Moon people. Maybe they think the movie will sell better to the teens if Taylor is seen as available since he does play a sexy wolf who's in love with Bella in this movie.
No matter who's asking Taylor says she's single. She says, "I've never thought it was a curse to be single, and at this poin in my life, I'm in the mind-set where I choose to be single-like I got to light scented candles and write in my diary and I wouldn't have time for that if I had a boyfriend right now!" Taylor does say that she and Lautner have "gotten really close" and that shooting thier upcoming movie, Valentine's Day, together was an interesting experience since the pair have the same first name. She shares, "It would be confusing on set with two Taylors in the same scene. They were like, 'Taylor, on your mark-no, not you, the other one!' So halfway through the shoot, I said, 'How about you guys call me Swifty and call him Taylor?'" Her co-star commented on the experience as well, saying that Swift "is hilarious" and that "it was definitely not hard to play her love interest."

Too soon?
Today I'm thinking about Taylor Swift. Since Taylor won Entertainer of the Year at this year's CMAs some artists including Wynona and Randy Travis have come out and said that it is way too soon for her to win such an honor. However, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Reba amoung others have said that she was totally deserving of the honor. She worked hard for it and she's had a lot of success and that's what the award is all about.
Do you think that it was too soon for her to win? Are you concerned that winning awards will become less of an honor now that she's won the top prize so young?
How much stock you think artists put into awards? The honor is nice, but do you think that Kenny Chesney has all of his awards on his mantel or do they get put into a box and shoved in the attic? Nascar driver, Carl Edwards gives his tropheys away when he wins it's only the win that counts he doesn't really care about the trophey. I think Brad Paisley put it best when he said "I like winning awards, I don't like reminders of the past all that much. Nor do I have time to dust or polish the statuettes, so my parents take care and display most of them at their house." I hear ya Brad, I hate dusting!
Regardless of what she does with the award or how early in her career she won it, I think Taylor Swift deserves the CMA for Entertainer of the Year. I think Taylor has a good enough head on her shoulders that no matter how often she wins it this will always be the biggest win in her career, but she'll value every future win as well.

Things you should know
Today I'm thinking about a few things you should know.
- Former "Apprentice" contestant, Omarosa, is getting her own reality TV show about dating called, "Omarosa's Ultimate Merger."
- Steven Tyler says he isn't leavign Aerosmith afterall! Tyler made a surprise appearance with guitarist Joe Perry and his band Tuesday night at a New York City venue.
- Miley Cyrus, 16, was named 2009's worst celebrity influence by readers of AOL's teen pop-culture blog, according to JSYK.com. Cyrus earned 42% of the vote, edging out competitors such as Britney Spears and Kanye West. Editors at the site attributed the win to her scandalous pole dance routine at the Teen Choice Awards.
- Taylor Swift will be in 3D! Taylor Swift is the first ever 3D cover girl for InStyle magazine coming to news stands on November 20th. Readers can hold the issue in front of their webcams for enhanced content.

New Nephew is here!!

Today I'm thinking about how excited I am about meeting my new nephew! Cole Anthony was born this morning, weighing in at a chunky 8lbs 2oz 20in. He and Momma are both doing great.
He has his mom's nose, but he takes after his daddy no question about it. My brother was a big baby too. My brother weighed just under 10lbs when he was born and Cole would've been around there has the doctors not induced Katie 2 weeks early!
Katie went in for her weekly appointment and her blood pressure was high so the doc decided they would induce her it took almost 13 hours for Cole to get here after they gave her the juice.
Of course Katie didn't get any sleep last night. My brother caught a few hours, but is running on adrenaline for the most part. Baby Cole just sleeps.
I couldn't be there for his birth, but my bro and Katie kept me posted every step of the way. I'm heading down there to meet him later today! YAY! I love being an auntie!
Congratulations Tony and Katie and welcome to the world Cole Anthony Montgomery!

Happy Veterans Day
Today I'm thinking about Veterans Day. First I'd like to thank all Veterans for their service. Now I'd like to share some interesting facts:

- 1.8 million were female
- 2.4 million were black
- 1 million were Hispanic
- 9.3 million were 65 and older
- 1.9 million were younger than 35
Veterans by the War: A third of all living veterans served during the Vietnam War. In 2007, there were:
- 7.9 million Vietnam-era veterans (1964-1975)
- 5 million Gulf War veterans. Of these, 16% were women
- 2.9 million World War II veterans. (1941-1945)
- 3 million veterans of the Korean War (1950-1953)

Veterans in the Work Force:
- 10.7 million veterans were in the civilian labor force in 2007
- Women veterans earned $32,217 in 2005, more than the $27,272 earned by female civilians with no military experience
- Male veterans earned $42,128 in 2005, more than the $39,880 earned by male civilians with no military service.
- Female veterans were more likely to work 35 hours or more each week more than 3 times as likely to work in public administration, compared with non-veterans.
- Veterans owned 3 million of the 20.5 million businesses the Census Bureau surveyed in 2002
Veterans' Income, Education and Disability:

- 17.4 million veterans voted in the 2004 presidential election. That's 74% of all veterans, compared with 63% of non-vets
- 14 million veterans voted in 2006 congressional election. That's 61% of all veterans compared with only 46% of civilians with no military service.

New e-mail
Today I'm thinking it's a pretty good idea to let you all know about my e-mail address change. The company has decided to stop using the Outlook Mail Server and try Google instead. So now we are all on this new Gmail which is pretty awesome because we can instant message each other and video message (if we have web cams) and we can organize our e-mails in a completely new way. I really like it. I've been using it for my home e-mail for quite some time so I'm excited to have it at work now too.
Another huge plus is that I can set up my e-mail on my phone now too! I love that! Another great way to use my AT&T phone!
The downside to this is that I have a new e-mail address. Those of you who have my e-mail address saved to your address books as nikki@wdez.com please make sure you change it to nikki.montgomery@mwcradio.com our studio e-mail address will remain the same gcmlive@wdez.com, but what's cool is that we can now receive e-mails at that address all day not just during the show.
Thanks for noting these changes. Have a great day!

Social Media
Today I'm thinking about Social Media. If you're not on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Flickr, YouTube, LaLa, Blogger, Digg, Revver, LinkedIn, Friendster, Classmates, Hi5, Delicious, Bebo, Virb, Yahoo!360...you get the idea, you are so out of the loop! There are so many different Social Media Networks that it is so hard to figure out where you need to be and how to utilize the sites for your needs.
Personally I have Facebook, Myspace, Digg, Flickr, Revver, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. Through work I also use LaLa. Talk about crazy trying to manage all of them. Facebook being the most interactive is the one I use regularly, besides that's more my demographic. I learned today that the average user age for Facebook is 33, Myspace is 26, Twitter is 31 and LinkedIn is 39. Facebook is the most used social network with Myspace coming in second, but Twitter right on it's heels!
Soon Google Wave will be available for public use which is going to be pretty cool from all I've seen about it. I think that is going to take over the top spot quickly. I can't wait! Did you or anyone you know get in on the beta testing? 10,000 people who preregistered were invited to do the live beta testing on Sept 30th. I registered, but didn't get my invite...I'm kinda sad. I wonder how they selected the beta testers?

Domestic violence
Today I'm thinking about the Rihanna and Chris Brown
domestic violence situation. Rihanna opens up for the first
time in an interview with Good Morning America regarding
the beating Chris Brown gave her hoping to influence other
women in similar situations to gain the courage to leave.
Domestic violence isn't a one time thing it may take a long
time in a relationship before it happens, but once it does it
will happen again. You can't tell yourself that he/she loves
you and they messed up. So many people in this situation
make a habit of lying not only to themselves, but to
everyone else because they're embarrassed or they think
it's their fault. If you've been so badly abused emotionally
to think that that's the best you can do you need to
confide in a friend who can help you see how valuable you
are.
I've been that friend and as the friend it's frustrating
because you see how much they're being hurt and you
can't understand why they can't just walk away. You feel
like a broken record saying "Leave him" every single time
you talk, but don't stop because eventually she'll listen
and she needs to know you're there for her. It's scary
leaving someone, but especially when they've convinced
you no one else would want you, or they're threatening
you and scaring you all the time and if kids are involved it's
even worse. Someone in an abusive situation needs an
army to stand behind them and somewhere safe to go.
If you are in an abusive relationship and you want out
know that there are people who understand what you're
going through and places to go that will keep you safe.

BLANK
Today I'm not thinking...or maybe I'm thinking of too many unimportant things not sure which. I just can't think of a single thing worth blogging about. These are the random thoughts running through my mind which make a much better twitter than blog, but whatever.
- Lee got the flu shot yesterday no side effects. I get the flu shot and have to call into work the next day. How does that happen? Lee is the most unhealthy person I know, eating junk, smoking, drinking tubs of coffee each day, and I'm pretty sure he hasn't worked out an hour since I've known him and he is sore at the injection site. But me on the other hand, I work out regularly, I try to eat right, I limit my coffee intake and drink water all the time, haven't smoked anything ever in my life and I get knocked down for a day with every side effect possible. Not fair!
- My sis called me and talked my ear off for 20 mintues straight without taking a breath so I was unable to squeeze in "I am working and can't talk right now". I just continued to work and listened to her stories about how people I don't know are ticking her off.
- I have a headache and can't stop sneezing! It's getting pretty annoying and not a good combination.
- Thought Chad Franzen from NewsChannel 7 was a friend, but found out he plays favorites and didn't even come say hello when he was in the building today...Not happy! Yeah Chad, LeeAnn ratted you out!
- Friends making life changing decisions and I'm on the speed dial. Love that. Worried about giving the wrong advice. Everything will be fine as long as I don't say too much.
- My thumb still hurts from shooting it with a nail gun. Really wish I hadn't done that! 1 inch finish nail nicked the wood and went right into my thumb! through the tip and down toward the knuckle. Went in about 3/4 of an inch pulled it out of my thumb and blood started gushing out of the tiny hole. Then the whole tip of my thumb turned black and blue. I shot myself on Saturday and today it's still bruised. Just hurts to grab stuff and write with it.
I that's it. That's the everything and nothing that's on my mind.

"I Hate Country Music"
Today I'm thinking about those people who say "I hate country music". In my opinion these people are just being ignorant. How can you say you hate something as broad as country music. To be honest those people who say it probably haven't really listened to it!
Country is an expression of life. It's songs that people can relate to. Many times it's a song based in real life.
For a second let's think about why we like things. We like our friends because we have something in common with them, we like our favorite color because of the way it makes us feel, we like our jobs because they make us happy or satisfy our needs and if you think about it country music does all of this for us too. We can relate to it...if we don't relate to a song we don't like it. I'm not going to sit here and say that I love every single country song ever written and I'm sure you can't either, but I LOVE the ones I can identify with or that I have something in common with. Country music makes us feel something because of the way it's sung or because of the words in the song that make us feel happy or maybe even sad. Country satisfies our need to be a part of something. It makes us feel like we're not alone because they're singing songs that relate to our lives.
I just can't identify with a rap song that talks about drugs and hos and livin in the ghetto. Or a screaming rock song that I can't even understand the words to. But I'm not going to go so far as to say that "I hate rap or rock" because there are some songs in those genres that I do identify with and like on some level, but not with the intensity I do with Country.
Country music isn't even all about the music it's the artists that perform it too. They are more relatable, more interactive, more friendly and interested in connecting with their audience than other genres. Most truly understand their consumers and their lifestyle and they are successful because of it. They know who made them and they appreciate that. You'd never see a country artist do some of the stupid things that Kanye West has done in the past. The VMAs was the perfect example of Country Class outshining everyone else.
I would love to challenge anyone who says "I hate country music" to sit and really listen to a song about them and still say that. A real life "Songs About Me" type of thing.

unfriending people
Today I'm thinking about unfriending someone from high school on Facebook. Am i right in doing so?
So there was this guy in high school who had a huge crush on me, but he was a real jerk to all my friends...and about a million other people, but he was nice to me so I was friends with him, but would never date him because I knew what a jerk he could be. After high school he and I ran into each other and kinda stayed in touch here and there. After a while we completely lost touch...until Facebook! He sent me a friend request on Facebook and I accepted thinking cool, we used to be friends what's the harm? Well then he started sending IMs trying to make plans to get together with me and so on and so forth. Well, my hubby knows what a jerk this guy is and needless to say not a fan of the idea of me getting together with him under any circumstances, but isn't one to tell me no either. I didn't end up getting together with him due to scheduling conflicts. I didn't hear from him for a while until I posted a status on my Facebook page about wanting to see the new Tim McGraw movie "The Blind Side". Well I'm not going to go into detail on how this developed, but I will tell you that the jist of his comments were that Tim isn't a good actor because he's a country singer and he hates country so inturn thinks that Tim McGraw is ignorant for trying to play a charactor so far from his trailer trash life. I was furious! How dare he say something like that! First of all, what does Tim being a country singer have to do with his acting and second, Tim McGraw is no where near TRAILER TRASH! After I argued back, which I probably shouldn't have done since the guy obviously didn't have an intelligent argument, he came back attacking me and my job! Telling me that I am arrogant and I shouldn't be so proud of working for some small town radio station in Central WI because if I really was worth anything I'd be in some major market somewhere not just acting like I am! WOW! And this guy is supposed to be a friend? Am I justified in deleting his account?
I would like all my blog readers to know that I am proud of where I work and what I do. I am proud to be a Central WI girl born and raised and I am proud to be working in Country radio where the songs actually mean something to people. I'm proud to be able to laugh the first 4 hours of the day and I hope I make others laugh with me and I am even more proud of the listeners who have made me part of their day and their lives. I don't think it's arrogant that I know that Jim's cancer is in remission, that Dave's wife Carol just celebrated a birthday and the next time they go to the winery they'll probably ask me if I want them to bring me back a bottle, that Mary has the flu right now so the lady she takes care of after her horrible car accident is probably missing her terribly, and all the other things that my friends and listeners share with me because we know each other through the radio. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
I love what I do and I love the people I do it for and if he wants to tear me down for it go ahead because I think he's just jealous.

Weekend
Today I'm thinking about taking a break! This past weekend was insane! Saturday morning we had to go to Stockbridge for a wedding...a full Catholic ceremony, they are so long, but so beautiful. Our friend KJ got married and this was our first chance to meet the bride! She seemed great. After a quick stop in Appleton we were off to Oshkosh to get checked into the hotel where the dinner and reception were held. The dinner was an Italian buffet which was really good, it seemed kinda weird after the bagpipes at the ceremony. Niether the bride nor groom's family are Scottish or Irish and we're not too sure if either are Italian, but regardless the food was good. The people we were with at dinner had kids so they bailed out early while Josh and I stuck it out and danced the night away at the reception and had a good time. Probably too good cuz I woke up the next day with a headache not sure though if it was from the beer or not wearing my mouthpiece while I slept cuz I forgot it at home. Either way I was pounding the Tylenol all day!
My headache just got worse when we were on our way to the baby shower. My brother's girl friend said she wanted to have the party at a friend of a friend's house because it was big, easy to find and closer for all her friends from Milwaukee who were coming to the shower (which by the way ended up being 1 person). After my mom offered her house and the mom to be was afraid it wouldn't be big enough, we were kind of offended, but whatever we had some words about it and moved on.
Easy to find my behind! My GPS couldn't even find the address!! After driving through 30+ miles of nothing but farm fields we finally found the road and from there the house. Which by the way...not even close to as big as my moms! So my head begins to pound even more!
As we drove past the house we realized the guest of honor had not even arrived, again with the pounding, so we drove into the closest town to waste some time and buy some pens because I forgot to bring some from home for the baby shower games. The nearest town was only about 6 or 7 miles, but the only store they had was a Family Dollar...which was fine because they do sell pens there. After struggling to waste a half hour in the dollar store my bro's GF called and said she would be at the house in 20 minutes. GREAT! 20 more minutes to waste so off to the only other store in town...a food outlet! Whatever we were thirsty and they sold water.
In the meantime, I called my sister who was riding down with my mom and told her the house is not easy to find in the middle of nowhere, so I tried giving her directions, but she said they had to make a stop first in another city, but not to worry because they had a map.
Finally, we felt it was OK to head back to the baby shower hoping that the place would be easier to find heading in this direction. THERE WERE SIGNS GOING THIS WAY!
We get back to the house and get inside and again this place not bigger than my moms and thank goodness the 40 people she invited didn't come because there would've been no way to get them in there!
After a while my phone rings. My sister (who has a very short fuse) yells into the phone, which is always awesome when you have a pounding headache,..."Where the heck is this place we drove all the way through town and now we're in the middle of nowhere!" She doesn't listen well. They were driving in the same way I did the first time so I knew they would have trouble. I reminded her that I told her it was in the middle of nowhere and I'd try to give her directions. Well that didn't work either because my mom is a very nervous driver and she especially gets worked up when she's lost then on top of it she has my sister yelling about it in the seat next to her...not a good situation so mom decided it best to get back on the main highway because it must be easier to find from there because remember my brother's gf said this place was easy to find. Well, eventually they did make it because they could follow those signs from the main highway. They did make it before the shower started so that was a bonus, but the first thing they said to me when they got out of the car wasn't hello it was "So when did you get directions to this place?" I simply said "I didn't; I have a GPS." So now I know what I'll be getting my mom for Christmas!
So through my headache I smiled and lead the games and kept track of all the gifts. The thing that always gets me about the gift opening part is that even though you register for things you always get duplicates of something because people don't know how to use registries! They print the registry to find out what the couple needs, but then they buy it and either forget to have the registry scanned or they just don't know that they need to and think it will magically disappear from the computerized list. She ended up getting duplicate outfits which isn't a big deal it was just comical because she didn't just get 2 she got 4 of the same outfit in 2 different sizes! My favorite gift though was the Graco Car Seat! YAY! Not the poor quality one on her registry that I was so concerned about, but the good one that I talked to her mother about getting for her. I intervened and whether she listened to me or used her own good judgement it doesn't matter my baby nephew will be safe in the car and that's all I care about!
And my headache was instantly relieved.

Avoid Cold and Flu
Today I'm thinking about how many people from our office are out sick and those few who are sick and are still at work! With all these germs around in an office environment where we share computers, fax machines, copiers, phones, printers and even work spaces in some cases we need to take all the precautions possible to stay well. So I found these helpful tips on About.com to avoid cold and flu.
Here are ten simple tips; ten healthy habits that will help you avoid colds and flu symptoms.
- Bar soap is a perfect breeding ground for viruses and bacteria. Wash your hands frequently with liquid antibacterial soap instead of bar soap.
- Don't share drinking glasses. Instead, use disposable cups in the kitchen and bathroom, using each cup only once and then disposing.
- Use disposable tissues when blowing your nose; use each tissue once, throw it away then wash your hands thoroughly.
- Colds and flu are often spread by hand-to-hand contact. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth after being exposed to viruses or bacteria.
- Bacteria and viruses can live on hand towels and sponges for hours. Use disposable paper napkins and towels in the kitchen.
- To kill bacteria and viruses, wash toys regularly in warm, soapy water.
- If you have to sneeze and a tissue is unavailable, sneeze into your shoulder not your hands to avoid spreading germs.
- Frequently clean surfaces such as stair rails, telephones, counter tops and door knobs to avoid hand-to-hand spread of viruses.
- Germs remain in stagnant air; open windows when weather permits to circulate fresh air.
- Avoid smoking at home. Smoking is a respiratory irritant that increases susceptibility to viruses that cause colds and the flu.

The world's gone crazy
Today I'm thinking about how crazy the world is! Between balloon boy, Lindsay Lohan falling apart publically again and Adam Lambert kissing a girl I just don't know how we keep from going crazy ourselves!
On YouTube today I watched a Balloon Boy rap which was kinda funny, but contained adult language so I was unable to post it here. These kids are getting crazy hits off making fun of a media frenzy that some crazy family created to get on TV...did I say CRAZY?
Then I watched a CelebTV video of Lindsay Lohan who was at an event last night looking horrible. Earlier this week she showed up in court because she broke her probation because she missed an alcohol class and even though she was dressed appropriately she otherwise looked dishevelled. She is so far gone! Crazy to think she was the cute little twins in Disney's "Parent Trap" remake!
Then there's openly gay Adam Lambert in the steamy new Details Magazine photo shoot kissing a woman! CelebTV.com has the photo shoot, but it was too racey for me to post here. Let's just say it's very heterosexual! Adam Lambert's female fans would probably dig it but don't get the crazy idea that he's into the ladies...cuz he's quick to point out that he prefers kissing guys.

Performance Right Act
Today I'm thinking about my job. You've heard about the Performance Right Act and hopefully voiced your opinion about it to your local representatives. This is the bill that would force radio stations across the U.S. to pay a tax on the music they play to the record companies...1 of 5 of them are in the U.S. by the way. This tax would put music playing radio stations out of business all over the country. You can learn more about this Performance Right Act by following the link in the What's Happening section of our home page.
Update on the PRA:
The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to approve the Performance Right Act. The House version of the bill has already passed in the House Judiciary Committee. Even though there are many steps left before it becomes a law we are getting much closer to losing radio...and our jobs!
Funny thing is in a recent poll 75% of respondents oppose the PRA and 95% of respondents agreed that radio has a promotional value for the artists and music.
So that raises the question: Do our representatives really represent us? or do the Lobbyists have all the power?
